Training & Community Education

Trauma-Informed Learning for the People and Organizations Who Support Others

Journey to Healing provides trauma-informed, clinically grounded training and professional development for schools, nonprofits, shelters, workplaces, community agencies, caregivers, and other helping professionals.

Our work is guided by our Trauma-Informed Community Building Model, which moves beyond simply teaching people what trauma is. We help organizations examine how trauma, stress, grief, conflict, burnout, and community conditions can affect the people they serve — and the staff responsible for supporting them.

Through practical education, guided reflection, skill-building, and customized strategies, we help teams strengthen communication, improve emotional safety, respond more effectively to challenging situations, and build healthier environments for both staff and the communities they support.

Our goal is not to deliver a one-time presentation that is forgotten once the session ends. We work with organizations to create practical, sustainable approaches that can be carried into everyday interactions, policies, programs, and workplace culture.

Every training is tailored to the audience, setting, goals, and real challenges of the organization. We begin with the need, then build the experience around it.

01 — Community & Professional Training

Our trainings are designed to move beyond awareness and into practical application. Participants learn how to recognize what is happening, respond with greater confidence, and use trauma-informed strategies in the environments where they work, lead, teach, and serve.

We support the people and organizations caring for children, families, staff, and communities every day.

Training topics may include:

  • Trauma-informed care and trauma-responsive practices
  • Mental health awareness and recognizing when additional support may be needed
  • Conflict resolution and healthy communication
  • Emotional regulation, coping skills, and de-escalation
  • Grief, loss, and trauma support
  • Youth mental health and social-emotional development
  • Supporting children through difficult emotions and conversations
  • Behavior support and responding to emotional needs
  • Family and caregiver education
  • Workplace wellness, stress management, mindfulness, and self-care
  • Leadership wellness, emotional intelligence, and healthy team culture
  • Community mental health education and stigma reduction

Designed for:

  • Schools and early-childhood teams
  • Nonprofit and shelter staff
  • Community agencies and partner organizations
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Youth- and family-serving professionals
  • Community groups and general audiences

Journey to Healing also provides supervised clinical education and professional development for interns and emerging mental health professionals.

Don’t see the topic you need? We can develop a training around the needs of your team, organization, or community.

02 — Staff & Workplace
Wellness

Healthy organizations need healthy teams. Our staff and workplace wellness services are designed to help organizations respond to stress, strengthen communication, support employee well-being, and create healthier, more connected work environments.

We begin by learning what your team is experiencing and then build a trauma-informed wellness experience around your organization’s needs.

Wellness support may include:

  • Staff wellness and mental health workshops
  • Burnout and compassion-fatigue prevention
  • Stress management and emotional regulation
  • Conflict resolution and workplace communication
  • Trauma-informed de-escalation
  • Leadership wellness and emotional intelligence
  • Psychological safety and team connection
  • Individual Wellness Check-Ins
  • Reflective group wellness spaces
  • Customized wellness or professional-development series

What a Staff Wellness Experience May Include

Every session is customized, but a staff wellness experience may incorporate:

Guided Reflection & Decompression
A supportive space for staff to reflect on stressors, workplace experiences, and the emotional demands of their roles.

Strategies for recognizing stress responses, regulating in real time, setting healthy boundaries, and navigating difficult interactions.

Team Connection & Communication
Activities that strengthen communication, encourage mutual support, and help teams develop healthier ways to respond under pressure.

Personal Wellness Planning
Staff identify practical coping strategies and create tools they can continue using beyond the session.

Optional Individual Support
Brief one-on-one Wellness Check-Ins may be incorporated when appropriate, along with take-home tools and wellness resources.

Sessions may be facilitated by Journey to Healing clinicians, trauma-informed wellness professionals, and trained staff based on the needs and scope of the engagement.

Organizations may choose a one-time wellness session, a multi-session series, or an ongoing wellness partnership.
